Can beginners attend?
Yes, this is for all levels. My goal is to be able to cater to your level and help you progress from wherever you are with your photography experience.
What gear should I bring?
Photo gear: Ideally if you have at least one wide angle and one telephoto, that would be best. If not, bring whatever you have and we’ll make it work or you can borrow anything I have. If you’ve got plenty of gear or more than enough, then I’d say bring 2 bodies, one with a wide angle like a 16-35 ish lens, and another body with a longer lens like a 70-200 or 100-400. If you just have a single all-purpose lens like a 24-105, that will be okay too. You can bring a tripod if you want, but I wouldn’t bring anything big if you’re flying, you can borrow any of mine. I have LOTS of tripods. CP/ND filters if you have them. If not, you can borrow mine.
Clothing gear: Bring layers, base, mid, and outer. It can go from super cold to super hot quite quickly and often out here. Comfy hiking shoes/boots. A rain shell is highly advised for both rain and wind. I usually have a bas layer merino t-shirt or long sleeve, a flannel, a light puffy, and a rain shell and that’s usually enough for me, but I also don’t get cold…You probably won’t need an arctic parka though.
How to get here?
If you’re flying, you’ll want to fly into Abq, it’s the only option. Santa Fe is another hour north. You can rent a car in Abq. If you’re driving, then just set your maps destination for Santa Fe!
Lodging?
Lodging is a bit tricky, mostly because the exact locations we’ll be going will be determined by the weather. We’ll meet in Santa Fe on the first day though, and stay there for the night. After that, it will depend on the weather and areas of color, though basing in Taos or Chama will be the most likely, but I will nail down a more solid itinerary and let everyone know about specific places and areas to stay once it gets closer to go time. Sometimes I camp, and sometimes people like to camp with me, either in a state park or a out in the national forest areas, but that’s definitely not necessary. Santa Fe and Taos both have plenty of amazing places to stay, and I will put together a list of recommendations for all participants. You can also email me anytime with any other specific questions or concerns.
How much hiking is involved?
On average, not a lot. Most locations are pretty close to parking, but the altitude is what you need to watch out for, especially if you’ve never been to high elevations before. I’ll keep a very watchful eye on everyone for signs of altitude sickness but it’s definitely something to keep in mind. Staying hydrated and having appropriate snacks will be very behooving. There are a couple of areas that might require a little big of uphill hiking but we’ll play that by ear when we’re all out there.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
A non-refundable deposit of $700 per person is required to reserve your space on the workshop.
Final payment is due 30 days prior to the workshop start date.
If a participant cancels:
• More than 120 days before the workshop start date: Any payments made beyond the $700 deposit will be refunded.
• 60–120 days before the workshop start date: 50% of payments made beyond the deposit will be refunded.
• Less than 30 days before the workshop start date: No refunds will be issued.
If a participant's space can be filled from a wait-list or by another paying participant, Hall of the Wild Studios may, at its sole discretion, provide a larger refund amount.
If Hall of the Wild Studios cancels the workshop, all workshop fees paid to Hall of the Wild Studios will be refunded in full. Hall of the Wild Studios is not responsible for airline tickets, lodging outside the workshop itinerary, travel insurance, or any other expenses incurred by participants.
*It is highly recommended that you have all of the necessary travel and gear insurance for your safety during this trip. We will not be held liable for any accidents, injuries, sickness, theft, loss or damage to you or your gear, while traveling to, from, or during the workshop.
