Join me in my home area of southwest New Mexico, where we will spend our nights photographing the stars in some of the darkest skies in the country.
For this workshop we will be focused on learning about the night sky, stars, deep space objects, and how to photograph them. We will also work on how to capture wide images featuring the beautifully unique landscapes of the chihuahuan desert.
Things covered: night sky education, including light pollution, stars and constellations, basic principles of astronomy. Camera settings and techniques for long exposures, astrolapses. How to use a star tracker. Light painting. Post production workflows, stacking techniques, and more.
Dates will be set based on our schedules and weather/sky conditions.
The workshop will take place in northern New Mexico, basing out of Chama and the surrounding areas (Taos, Santa Fe) where we will encounter incredible fall colors, mountain views, and with any luck, some elk and other wildlife as well!
We will be focused on all things landscape photography, including settings, composition & light, long exposures, types of filters and when/how to use them, as well as post processing techniques to get the most out of your images.

You can fly into Aberdeen, which would be logistically the easiest, from which you can catch a taxi to the resort or I can come pick you up at the airport, which is about 25 mins away from the Toadhall Rooms.
You can rent a car, take the train to Stonehaven from Edinburgh there I can come pick you up (Assuming you're flying into Edinburgh).
What you’ll experience:
We will be staying in a beautiful resort tucked away on the rugged eastern coast in Aberdeenshire, where we will be focusing on both epic seabrids and incredibly stunning landscapes complete with historic castles and seaside cliffs that just don’t quit.
You’ll learn how to capture everything from birds in flight to long exposures of seascapes, as well as plenty of time for proper editing and post production sessions.
*It is highly recommended that you have all of the necessary travel and gear insurance for your safety during this trip. We will not be held liable for any accidents, injuries, sickness, or damage to you or your gear, while traveling to, from, or during the workshop.
Join me for a private birding & wildlife workshop in New Mexico or Arizona, where we will tailor both the locations and experiences to your needs.
Popular areas of interest include se AZ in the Chiricahua mountains, near Portal, greater Tucson area, and of course, central NM Rio Grande Valley areas from Albuquerque to T or C, NM.
For the Chiricahua mountains, this area will be camping only as that’s all that’s there, so you’ll need to have your own rig or camping gear. For everywhere else you can stay wherever you want as there will be more traditional lodging options available.
